magazine cover planning

In college we are going to be designing a music magazine front cover. Before we can actually do this we have to do some crucial planning In order to make the cover a success. The first thing we had to do was to think about what type of music genre it will be, so we decided that our magazine will be based on pop music. Once we got this out of the way we had to think of a suitable heading, these are some of the ideas we had: Hooked, and star-pop. We decided to go with the hooked heading because it seemed to fit really well with the cover it gave an impression that this magazine could be very addictive and interesting.

We also decided that the magazine is going to be made weekly because in order to make the magazine recognised and interesting we have to update it every week to make our readers interested rather than every month which will make them lose interest.

The original price of the magazine was £2 but we felt in order to draw attention to our target audience we had to reduce the price to £1.20 so there for children and teenagers are able to afford this. Our main target age is from about 11-16 because we did some research that pop is usually targeted at those sorts of ages.

We also decided to give a free CD with each issue which has the top ten pop music voted by our readers. Looking back at this we had to reduce the number of music from the top ten to the top five because it proved to cost a lot to produce. And that way we don’t in counter any sort of financial problems for example increasing the magazine price which teenagers and children won’t afford and will basically drive our readers away.

We set up a web site called www.hookedonpop.com this was mainly to update our readers with the latest updates and gossips for example interviewing girls aloud and actually blogging it on the site which will update our readers with the latest pop songs coming out and sneak previews.
